Violet utters, “I want to know what love is,” and thus, her journey begins.
Violet Evergarden Anime is a never-ending journey of a string of words, words that can influence a person’s future and change their perspective about the world. Finding the right words to express themselves for the dear ones isn’t easy, and Violet learns that through her encounters with different people who have a story to tell.
The story of Violet Evergarden Anime is intricated with words on a piece of paper that can save a dear brother from despair, can show the love and care of a mother for her child even after her demise, can connect two distant hearts that yearn for each other, can bring news of immense joy or sadness to someone dear and finally can make people more bonded to each other.
The letters in Violet Evergarden Anime contained the unsaid words, which was the key to unlock the impenetrable vault on people’s hearts and break the iron shackles that restrain their emotions. Each letter was meant to be delivered to its destination because each letter contained words representing its senders’ genuine feelings for the dear ones.
Violet has a cold past; she slowly started to experience new words during her journey as an Auto Memory Doll, warm words filled with compassion, affection, and love. Those words melt the ice accumulated around Violet’s heart and contribute to her growth as a human being.
As you will watch Violet Evergarden Anime, you’ll also see that she explores the world and comes face to face with human’s real emotions; she understands that the world isn’t as happy or joyful as it seems; there are painful memories too, but she willingly accepts every part of it grows stronger. She’s a sweet girl who lost her dearest person on the battlefield. Instead of giving up on life, she decides to live on with the pain of “I love you, Violet,” that weighs on her shoulder.
The Violet Evergarden Anime’s slow pace creates an emotional environment and bond with the viewers to relate it to. The subtle visuals and beautiful OST of Violet Evergarden Anime around the characters’ stories have a touch of raw essence, which brings tears to our eyes.

Violet Evergarden Film Sells 1.45 Million Tickets!!! (2.1 Billion Yen)
Kyoto Animation aired Violet Evergarden: The Movie on September 18 2020 according to Wikipedia.
Kyoto Animation’s Violet Evergarden: The Movie anime has sold 1.45 million tickets for 2.1 billion yen (about US$20.2 million) till Thursday (14 Jan 2021).
The film aired in Japan on September 18, 2019, and it ranked at #2 in its first weekend. The film is the first new Japanese anime movie (not a compilation) to open in Dolby Cinemas.
Kyoto Animation postponed the movie’s opening in Japan due to the spread of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The movie was scheduled to air in Japan on April 24, 2020. This was the second delay for the movie, originally postponed to January 10, 2020.
The movie till now earned a total of 831 million yen (about US$7.90 million). Netflix streamed the anime in April 2020.

Review of the movie
I’m confused about whether I should review this movie for you or not because it’s impossible to talk about the basic plot without giving away spoilers. The main spoiler moment was in the trailers, though, so I’ll try my best not to give away all the crucial spoilers.
Violet Evergarden The Movie is another sequel to the Violet Evergarden Anime series after Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll side story film. You can skip watching the side story because it has no relation to the latest movie.
In this movie, you will see Violet has matured and settled into her role as a Doll, but she still longs for Gilbert. The TV series ended with her realizing the meaning of both the most important emotions of human beings:- love and grief, but even at the end of it, she still maintained her hope that Gilbert is alive. In this movie, her feelings get closure for once and for all.
Gilbert comes back. It turns out he’s been living his best life on a tiny island far away from the county lands. If you want to know the reason why? Then watch the movie. I’m not going to spoil everything for you.
The fact that Gilbert returns is one of those scenes where you’re on the edge of your seat and can’t hide your curiosity anymore.
Even if the movie confronts Gilbert’s situation head-on, it didn’t forget that the story is primarily about Violet’s growth as an individual. This is evident from the narrative structure, which weaves three separate yet intertwining stories.
The first set (several generations in the future) is about a girl exploring Violet’s memories or, you can say, legacy as an Auto Memory Doll. The second part is about an ill boy who commissions Violet to write a letter for his family after his demise, while the third is about Violet and Gilbert’s reunion. Although The stories are only loosely connected, I think they say many unsaid words about Violet’s future, present, and past. When put together, this film is like a combination of everything you need to know about Violet Evergarden as an individual.
In some ways, I’d describe this movie as a greatest hits album. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the future story revolves around the events of episode 10 because we know that episode 10 was the most tear-jerking episode of the series.
Violet Evergarden works best in short and sweet installments like the Violet Evergarden Anime series rather than a movie. Sometimes, the slow pace and 2-hour length movies people lose interest if they don’t get emotionally attached half of the second set. The emotional climaxes get too exhausting to watch. It’s primarily for this reason rather than anything else that the Violet and Gilbert plot falls flat for many. Every scene would make you cry your heart out for sure.
Kyoto animation didn’t fail to amaze us with the characters and beautiful art. One more unique thing which caught my attention was the crying. There are a lot of scenes where people twisted their faces in an attempt to hold their emotions back before but eventually lost control, and all of these parts were drawn with such delicate precision that is worthy of being mentioned
Overall the movie is great, but it would have been better if it was produced in smaller parts as episodes, but that’s just one of its drawbacks. But I’m happy that Violet finally got closure from Gilbert, and You should definitely watch the movie!
I’d rate it 4/5 stars.
