5. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions
“The moment you say a word of parting, you’ve already parted. So long as you and I are both somewhere in this world, we haven’t parted. So long as you don’t say it, you haven’t parted.” – Shichimiya Satone (1)
The main characters in this Lovey-Dovey Anime are experiencing a psychological disorder. The disorder is also known as chunibyo, a mocking term for the immature behavior of young teenagers. They act out on delusions of grandeur or pretend that they have magical powers like anime characters.
While the characters try to normalize themselves and create a club, slowly feelings begin to develop between the lead characters. Now the question is: Will the syndrome go away? Will the confession be delivered?
Finally, I can say that Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is a very entertaining and Lovey-Dovey Anime series to watch. (Although the movie is much better) It’s not like the usual harem having a pervert/ dumb protagonist who can’t make up his damn mind.
Entertainment is not so easy to bring these days, especially with many already used ideas, but this one here is executed pretty well, in my opinion. So, give it a shot.
4. Nisekoi
“Never lose yourself when trying to hold on to someone who doesn’t care about losing you.” – Chitoge Kirisaki (2)
Nisekoi follows high school students. Raku Ichijō is the son of a leader in the yakuza faction Shuei-Gumi while Chitoge Kirisaki is the daughter of a boss in a rival gang known as the Bee Hive Gang from America.
They meet each other accidentally. But in the same accident, Raku also loses a very precious locket that was dear to him as his childhood love gave it. So he blames chitoge for it and blackmails her into finding it with him. During the search, they begin to dislike or like each other? Who knows?
With a consistent and developing cast, this Lovey-Dovey Anime presented a vivid yet realistic depiction of the world and a story that knows its strength and used it well; Shaft’s Nisekoi adaptation paints a surreal world that portrays reality through character interaction.
3. Kamisam Kiss
“If you could do everything by yourself, I wouldn’t have a reason to exist.” – Tomoe (3)
The Lovey-Dovey Anime story follows a high school girl named Nanami who leads a tough life, mainly because of her gambler father. One day, Nanami and her father get kicked out of the house since her father failed to pay rent after losing all the money he had in gambling.
As the debt collectors chase Nanami, she ends up living in the streets until One day, she sees a man being chased by a dog, and she helps him out. Later this very man gives celestial powers to Nanami after listening to her side of the story, and she starts living in a shrine. But is she alone? Will she find someone?
Kamisama Hajimemashita is a bit old yet can be considered a gem because of the cutesy romance, beautiful boys, and strong female heroines! These elements make it take 3rd place in the Lovey-Dovey Anime Series ListThe female protagonist is not even like other female leads who are soft and focus on their beauty. Still, she’s a fighter and knows how to deal with situations.
The pre-planned development of this Lovey-Dovey Anime is just like having sundae in summers. The cute snippets will make your heart skip a bit. It’s not totally romantic, but it’s more like shoujo. You can give it a watch if you want something supernatural romance.
2. Golden Time
“Worrying about rejection may be the same as rejecting yourself.” – Kaga Kouko (4)
Banri Tada is a new student at a private law school in Tokyo who has lost his memories due to an accident. At this particular time of the accident, Banri’s soul, consisting of memories, escaped from his body and became known as the “Spirit of Banri Tada.”
At the college entrance ceremony, he comes across Mitsuo and Kouko causing a commotion. It turns out that the stylish and pretty diva is his childhood friend Kouko Kaga! They both had promised to marry each other one day when they were kids.
But Mitsuo’s feelings changed as he grew up, so, to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and took the examination for this well-known private college. But Kouko also applied for the same to be with him. Now, what will happen next? Will Mitsuo fall in love again? Will Tada find his memories back?
This anime is one of my favorites Lovey-Dovey Anime because it actually represents what a romance anime is. The realistic views are the strong points in Golden time, and I think this is how all anime should be, especially when they bring ‘romance’ or a slice of life or high school tags.
Unrealistic romance makes the love story cliche, and good things golden time isn’t like that at all. So, if you want a good romance with realistic, light-hearted comedy, Golden Time is probably one of the best anime that you should watch this season.
1. My Little Monster
“Does it really matter that people don’t like you?” – Shizuku Mizutani (5)
The story takes off when Shizuku, an isolated nerd, meets Haru, a rowdy little monster. He keeps causing trouble, and Shizuku takes it casually and interacts with him in a way that no one else could. Slowly from being friends, will they take it to the next level?
This Lovey-Dovey Anime is a good mixture of comedy and Romance with the elements of slice of life and highschool. The circumstances which test and make them closer are worth a watch. There are cute moments that will make you flush, and you will feel really attached to the anime as well.
The development between side characters is excellent too. I’d give it 4.5/5 stars for sure. I can’t give full stars because if there would have been a little more elements or season 2 to, then I’d indeed had given.
It’s hard to find a Lovey-Dovey Anime with comedy/slice of life that leaves you in awe. But I can say that this is definitely one of the best rom/com/slice of life I’ve watched till it’s short and crisp without any melodrama or cringy scene, which overall makes it a perfect movie to watch on a date.
Did you think this is the end? No! not. I have much more anime for you. There’s no end to my recommendations.
