Will There Be Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 – Updated Information 2021

You are here to know about Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2. Well, you’ve come to the right place because I have all the updated information on Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2.

For those who are new here and want to start up on this amazing anime series, which revolves around a knight and his harem and the rest, I guess everyone is intelligent enough to figure it out by now. Here is a small glimpse of the series.

The plot takes place in a magical high school where students battle each other using weapons generated by scientific devices; this plot seems pretty common in anime.

However, Rakudai, in particular, decided to borrow a character archetype that was not common among this specific genre like fantasy and fiction. In this anime, despite the main character’s lack of good ability, he manages to be quite competent in his own way of fighting.

This breaks the general stereotype of character archetypes, which usually contain something along the lines of an overpowered character or a completely underpowered character.

Now the main reason I’m saying this is Rakudai is an anime that really switches up the mood towards the end of the show, which is really difficult for the animators and writers.

As a combination of both the writing, art, and music, Rakudai breaks apart from its casual mode and becomes something serious, showing the consequences of social boundaries and the lack of talent in the world of anime.

The sudden change in mood makes the viewer root for the protagonist as if the future is uncertain for an ability he can’t change. It depicts the two primary contrasting themes of the show: hard work versus natural talent against each other, which builds up curiosity in a viewer.

Provided the anime’s short run time, the change in both the plot’s tempo and the smooth changes to the thematic focus really crafts an enjoyable show to watch up until the very end.

The question is will we ever get Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2?

Since it’s the only way to know how well the relationship between Ikki and Stella will develop, whether Ikki will become a great knight without magical powers or not. The only way to know is to read the light novel, but it’s a different case for those who like anime more.

I have discussed all the reasons behind why I think there’ll be no Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2.

Reasons behind Why there will be No Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2

1. Reference For Adaption

Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry anime was adapted from the light novel.

According to Wikipedia, there are currently 18 light novel volumes of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry published in Japan. The series was adapted into a manga illustrated by Megumu Soramichi.

The manga was collected in eleven tankōbon volumes. There is also an anthology manga volume illustrated by various artists that got published in 2014.

The Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry light novels are ongoing. The author Riku Misora released the latest volume in Japan on June 12, 2020, which you can check out here.

It looks like the story will end in 1 or 3 more volumes, so it will not be surprising if it will get concluded by 2021. There can always be some sequel or spin-off announced, so we will need to wait and see what will happen with the story.

The first season of the Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry anime adapted volumes 1-3. Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 can continue from volume 4 if it ever gets a sequel.

2. Sales And Profit

Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2

One cour season of Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 can cost up to 3 million dollars.

Low profit is usually the reason why most anime don’t get a continuation. A perfect example of a sequel with low chances because of money is Wise Man’s Grandchild Season 2.

Another reason is that the profit should be great enough for the committee to think about Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 because the watch rate drops by the second season. There will be lesser profit than season 1.

For example, Goblin Slayer didn’t lose money, but a Goblin Slayer Season 2 would not make a good profit for the production committee.

The Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry anime from Silver Link sold around 3K copies per disk on average. That’s not terrible, but it’s not great, to be honest. The series got a BD-Box later, and it sold around 700 copies, which is still not satisfactory.

Volume 17 of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry was released on November 14, 2019, and sold approx. 15K copies. The latest light novel, volume 18, which got released in 2020, sold around 10K copies.

The sales are bad for a series that received an anime adaptation. Good sales are around 30K – 50K or a decent popular series. But in cases like Overlord that sold 230K copies per volume, it has a hard chance producing season 4.

There are only two figures available for Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry and Stella and Vermillion. There are also approximately 15-25 pieces of merchandise made for this series, which doesn’t provide much profit to the production committee. Probably this is one of the reasons for dropping the project on Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is doing really bad in terms of merchandise. Even less popular anime like Tokyo Ravens have more merch, yet Tokyo Ravens Season 2 didn’t get announced to date.

3. Popularity and Fanbase

Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2

The official website for Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry was last updated in 2017 with news about the Blu-Ray box availability. The official Twitter account has 37K followers. They last tweeted on December 18, 2020.

The tweet :

“New information after a long time! Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry’s popularity reached its pinnacle in 2015, and after that, it just keeps dropping. Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 might not even make 20% of the first season.

There is nothing new released for this franchise. There was a new figure planned two years ago, but it was never released. Most probably, it got canceled because of a lack of demand, which can be a similar case for Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 as well.

4. Ranking and Achievements

Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2

MAL has rated the Anime with 7.5 stars, and its rank is 1470. (Ranks more than 1000 have a difficult time to produce a second season, there are only 1-5% chances of Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 to make it to the screen). IMDB has rated it with 7.4 stars.

The light novels have been well received. According to the Japanese light novel news website LN News, the series had 1.5 million copies in print by February 2017. (1) Oricon ranked Chivalry of a Failed Knight as the 29th and 17th top-selling light novel series in November 2015 and May 2016, respectively. (2)(3) Besides, its anime adaptation also appeared on top-selling charts. (4)

Anime News Network had six of their editors review the first episode of the Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry:

  1. (5) Lynzee Loveridge compared the Asterisk War series. While she considered the Chivalry characters to be more likable, she was critical of the blended in CG artwork and considered Stella’s becoming Ikki’s servant to be “cringe-worthy”;
  2. Nick Creamer criticized the episode and called it a “concentrated capsule of hoary clichés”;
  3. Hope Chapman called the episode’s plot “soul-suckingly lame” and considered Asterisk as a much nicer series;
  4. Rebecca Silverman wrote that Asterisk and Lance N’ Masques already did the first episode’s plot. While she praises Stella for showing some character development in the first few episodes, she says this gets lost with her “tsundere ranting.”
  5. Zac Bertschy said that the anime is “a total waste of [the viewer’s] time, but it serves a purpose, however unintentional.”.
  6. The sixth reviewer, Theron Martin, agreed that “formulaic and generic” wouldn’t be the wrong way to describe the story, and he also praised Stella’s underlying motivations. Martin concluded that while the series has potential, it needs to find “fresher angles” to stand out from other similar storylines. (6)

Silverman reviewed the anime’s future episodes;(7) she called the final episode “a triumphant one in terms of Ikki’s battle against his own insecurities, his place at school, and his relationship with Stella.” She would later go on to say that she was “pretty happy with this ending and [she] wouldn’t be sad if another season materialized somewhere along the way.”(8)

Such reviews were considered unpopular and controversial as the reception by general audiences from the ratings shows that the Chivalry of a failed knight(9)(10) is higher than asterisk war,(12) contradicting some of the editors’ perceptions of the show.

The reviews by the critics were really harsh, but they did speak some truth about the anime. The anime has cliche plots; that’s the very reason viewers lose interest. The production committee won’t invest their money in Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 because season 1 was bad as reviewed by the critics.

CONCLUSION

Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2

There is enough source material left to adapt at least five more Chivalry seasons of a Failed Knight.

The anime didn’t do well in increasing the source material sales or selling merch and Blu-Ray, which means that means the production committee most likely did not see any profit to invest for Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2.

People love this series; it’s evident from the reviews that I’ve come across, but it’s underrated, and So it’s shocking that the popularity is so low. There is no new merchandise or any social media activity in the past few years, which shows us that there are only 1% chances of Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 to get released.

From all the above information, it’s crystal clear that the problem isn’t the source material. There is more than enough material in the books for Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2. The main reason is Popularity, which is pretty low, and the promotion stopped for this series.

Some niche series gets another season since they make enough profit even with a small fan-base; for example, there will be Youjo Senki season 2.

This brings me to the main reason why there was neverRakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 announced. It looks like in the case of Chivalry of a Failed Knight; the reason was money. The first season failed to make a good profit, and they had a hard time earning back the cost.

The conclusion to Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Season 2 Release is that another season will never get announced. I will not give you any false hopes, but it’s the bitter truth that you must face.

So if you love this series, you can read the light novels to learn how it continues after the first season; the link is provided above in the “Where to watch section?”.
