May 1 is May Day, and for centuries it has been celebrated as one of the world’s principal festivals. The origin of May Day dates back to the days before the birth of Christ, when it was primarily a festival to celebrate the glory of spring and to herald the arrival of summer.

The beginning of May is the time of the year when warmer weather begins, and flowers and trees start to blossom. It is said to be a time of love and romance, when people celebrate the coming of summer with lost of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.

May Day – International Labor Day

May Day is also celebrated as International Workers’ Day or Labour Day. It commemorates the struggle and gains of workers and the Labour Movement. The theme for 2021 Labor day is “Maintaining safety and security at the workplace”.

In United states and Canada, Labor day is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. In 2021, Labor day falls on 6th September.

To put it in a nutshell, there are many reasons May Day is celebrated. It’s a celebration of spring. It’s a day of political protest. It’s a pagan festival, which existed before Christianity. In addition, it is a day for organized labor and is a national holiday in many countries.
