Can We expect Goblin Slayer Season 2?

Goblin Slayer perfectly captures the spirit of murder and blood do’s, with all the glorious total party kills, rule-lawyering, and clashing encounters. You can witness deliberately written moments where the players are given hints to roll the dice. This makes the fan more curious about the Goblin Slayer Season 2.

It is a well-written dark fantasy in a market where this type of feature is in deficit. Many little details show that many thought and research were put into world-building and realistic touch. While it’s not quite on the speculative fiction level, it is pretty close to present itself as a game-like setting written as a real functioning world.

A unique and fascinating MC and his gang and the premise initially imply that Goblin Slayer will be a faceless killing machine. He was born to be a completely average and very much a simplistic person. A single event radically changes his life, making him the focus of the whole anime. His goal is to kill goblins, because of which he abandons everything else, including growing into a well-adjusted human being. The foundations to lead a normal life are there, but the more Goblin Slayer comes in contact with people, the more he grows, becoming more complex and constantly re-evaluating what he is.

Now fans are eager to watch another one core anime series where they go on Goblin Slaying Berserk again! Everyone wants to know whether there’ll be Goblin Slayer Season 2

But the question is whether it’ll make it to the screen or not? Should we expect Goblin Slayer Season 2?

Why should we not expect another season of Goblin Slayer Season 2?

1.Reference For Adaption

The Goblin Slayer anime had been adapted from light novels because the manga is still ongoing while light novels are updated faster.

Only 13 volumes of the light novel have been released in Japan, which indicates it’s still ongoing as the story is incomplete. Kumo Kaguya released the latest volume in October 2020. He has written three books in 2019, 2 in 2018, 2 in 2019, and 2 more in 2020.

The Goblin Slayer anime adapted 1-2 volumes and few parts of 4 for season 1, and the whole of volume 5 was used in adaption for the new movie Goblin slayer crown. So 9 volumes are still left for further adaption, which is good news for the goblin slayer fans! as this increases the chance of Goblin Slayer Season 2

2. Average Sales

Goblin Slayer Season 2

Goblin Slayer anime sold 4000 per disc which is quite good as blu ray sales been decreasing alot lately. Due to online streaming people are buying less and less Blu ray DVDs nowadays which has created problem for the anime industry.

The anime premiered on October 7, 2018, and aired 12 episodes by the end of December 2018.

The latest light novel volume 12 of Goblin Slayer sold more than 30K copies, and the previous volume 11 sold more than 35K copies. It can be said that light novel sales are doing much better than the anime.

It’s popular but not a total hit as usually light novels which reach 50K or more have chances of hitting the top charts but as we can see their average is upto 30K which makes them a little mediocre.

Goblin Slayer’s manga is more popular than light novels, evident from the sales of the latest volume 9 of the manga, which sold more than 1M copies. The previous volumes sold around 150,000 copies. But looking at both the sales, it can be said that both the manga and light novels are doing average. They might have enough to produce another season, but the anime is not getting any popular, leading to its cancellation. Now this lowers the chances for Goblin Slayer Season 2.

There are eleven figures of Goblin Slayer anime characters and most of them are for Goblin Slayer and the Priestess, but there is High Elf Archer and Cow Girl as well. There is also only around 50 goods of merchandise made for the Goblin Slayer series.

The merchandise isn’t doing well for Goblin Slayer which further decreases the chances for Goblin Slayer Season 2.

3. Popularity and Fanbase

The official website for Goblin Slayer was last updated in September, announcing the movie Goblin Slayer -GOBLIN’S CROWN being available for streaming. The official Twitter account has 45K followers, and they did tweet last time a few days ago about Goblin Slayer Volume 10.

which means they are active overall. The online fans are active and they’re hyped about Goblin Slayer Season 2.

Goblin Slayer reached the top trends with the first episode on October 7 because it was controversial. After that, the popularity of Google kept dropping till it turned down to 40%. Now it has dropped a lot and isn’t even much available in trends anymore.

The only way I could see them thinking about Goblin Slayer Season 2 is if there was a massive boost for the light novel books, and they should manage with the streaming rights so that it will be enough for them to cover the low amount of merch.

4. Official Announcements

Next year in January, there will be a stage event from the series’s publisher where they usually announce new stuff. Goblin Slayer might have a panel discussion, so maybe there will be some announcement about the Goblin Slayer Season 2 series continuation or cancellation. You can check out another anime of a similar genre here.

5. Ranking and achievements

MAL and IMDB have rated Goblin Slayer 7.5/10, and it holds rank #1631 overall. The Goblin Slayer light novel ranked 5th in Takarajimasha’s annual light novel book in 2017 in bunkobon category.

The manga’s first volume achieved 39th place on weekly Oricon Manga rankings in its first week. But is this enough for the making of Goblin Slayer Season 2?

Where to watch?

You can watch Goblin Slayer on these online streaming sites:-

  • Netflix
  • Crunchyroll
  • Hulu
  • Animelab
  • Manga Watch (manga updates)

Conclusion

Goblin Slayer Season 2

We shouldn’t expect Goblin Slayer Season 2 because the sales of Blu-ray were average and didn’t even make a hit in the anime marketing industry. Let’s be honest in this century, making it to the top is really difficult.

The anime might work on online streaming platforms, but they may face much more losses if they make Goblin Slayer Season 2, which the production houses are trying to avoid.

Looking at the stats of merchandise and sales, the anime did well, but it can’t compete with Konosuba. They did make some profit, but it’s not more than enough to start a new project.

One must also pay attention that the readers preferred manga over anime. They tend to follow the manga rather than watch anime, which means that Goblin slayer may have ongoing manga series for another 1-3 yrs, but no Goblin Slayer Season 2 in the form of anime. If there’ll be Goblin Slayer Season 2, the publisher would certainly announce this in January for sure!

Let’s hope for the best and keep updating yourself with daily anime news here!

FAQs on Goblin Slayer Anime

2.Can you answer why do the Goblin Slayer’s eyes glow red?1.Where can I read/watch/purchase the Goblin Slayer series?

2.Can you answer why do the Goblin Slayer’s eyes glow red?

The glowing is stylish; hence the anime used to make it a little realistic and unique, though, in the LN, characters have noticed his red eyes. He witnessed his sister get raped, tortured, and killed. This is the reason it does not hold water. (hypothetical answer)

Goblin Slayer is a light novel (LN) and LN spin-offs are given below:
Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One (Goblin Slayer origin)
Goblin Slayer Side Story 2: Daikatana of Singing Death (Sword Maiden origin)
There are anime adaptation and manga adaptations too, which are given below:
Goblin Slayer
Goblin Slayer: Brand New Day (LN vol.04 stories)
Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One
Goblin Slayer Side Story 2: Daikatana of Singing Death
All can be read from MAL, if you’re really interested in Goblin Slayer then keep track of their website as well!

4.What are the differences between the anime/manga/LNs, and which should I watch/read if I want to know the whole story?

The anime adapted the LN fairly well, though it switches between two arcs: the farm battle originally happens before Water Town in LN. The worldbuilding narratives have been ommitted and small changes such as Goblin Slayer’s hair color (from black to grey). The LN has more backstory and worldbuilding than the manga, but they are similar in pictorial depiction.
The one(s) you should read/watch entirely comes down to your taste in genre. The anime is a solid work providing something the others don’t (animation/music/voicing in the anime, fantastic art detail in the main series’ manga, greater depth in the LN), so most fans would recommend starting from the beginning. The manga’s biggest problem is that it has taken around 1.5 years to adapt each volume, so go for LN if you’re impatient.
