Warner Bros. Japan and the staff of the anime adaptation of Fujino Ōmori and Suzuhito Yasuda have confirmed that there will be 4th season to it, and The new season of Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? will air on TV and stream online in Japan in 2022.

“Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?” The anime title is too long and yet grabs the attention of many viewers. Although the Japanese names may not sound interesting, this particular anime’s English translation is weirdly attractive. I decided to write a review for “Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka” because recently, fans started showing hatred towards it and disgraced it.
So to clear the confusion here, I am with an honest review about “Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?.”
Storyline
The story of Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? isn’t RPG’s strong point from my POV, and I’ll admit that this RPG doesn’t even have a single strong point. It’s basically a combination of different things that make this RPG enjoyable to watch. The story isn’t really explained in detail and sometimes confuses the viewers as well. This story reminds me of another similar anime, namely, Fruits Basket.
The concept of Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? of the world of gods and goddesses and the anime aspects are explained to develop more and more with each episode similar to No Game No Life. The best thing I realized is that there is no particular story in this anime; this can also be why many viewers enjoy each episode without worrying about the plot and are surprised by the unpredictable elements. It’s also the very reason why Gintama/ Horimiya got popular in the first place.
Many people compare “Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?” to SAO. Still, I don’t see many similarities between them also, “Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon” anime is a little better when it comes to animation and pretty female character designs.
Characters
The protagonist, Bell, seems like an elementary being at first. The anime is like an RPG game where the main character is supposed to have the best power-ups and skills as they level up. Many People complained that the MC becomes overpowered after a few episodes, but I felt he was reasonably average, just like Dazaii in Bungou Stay Dogs.
He is always overshadowed by the sword princess, who he wishes to surpass. He isn’t the strongest person around, and this reminds me that I wouldn’t say I liked Kirito in SAO because he was ridiculously overpowered. Also, there was no explanation given behind its unbelievably massive superpowers. The other main character, Goddess Hestia, is one of the best components of the show.
This show feels like a parody of the usual harem. You can also watch a reverse harem:- My Next Life as a villainess. Hestia (who seems to like a bell) will point out the number of times she finds Bell with a different female. Strangely, none of the other female characters display the amount of affection that Hestia shows except Lili. I felt bad for Hestia as it seemed she’s just a one side lover.
Other characters are introduced, but not much character development took place in season 1. This anime could improve a lot if they worked on character development, especially with Freya, who seems like the main antagonist.
Animation
The art is simple and yet a treat to the eyes. I feel they didn’t spend much on art because they wanted to invest in a decent amount of action and quality animation. It was surprising for me to watch episode 8 fight, it looked spectacular, and I didn’t expect that once again.
However, I really wish the Dungeon and its enemies had more variety (scenes included).In the later episodes, it seems like they started working on it. The dungeon definitely holds a lot of promise and expectations. But let’s be honest, Made in Abyss was much better than this anime
The characters would be more charming if they could also use more design. They do show much expensive equipment in shops around the city, but we don’t get to see even the best fighters with anything flashy equipped. We all know that strong people are supposed to look cool in armor.
Final words
I feel like this anime is somehow enjoyable because it’s very carefree. Every episode I watched was good, and I know that the upcoming episodes or seasons will be good. I wouldn’t say I like the type of anime where you wait a week for a new episode and feel disappointed with its story, but that’s not the case with this show.
Every week is worth the wait. This anime wasn’t like others, which start off boiling and simmer down by the end. Instead, it started cold and is slowly warming up, just like an RPG. This anime is totally a mix of comedy, action, and harem; every episode has the possibility of being either full of jokes, action, or character/relationship development.
